  • Joy Turner

From a young age, I have been deeply committed to helping others. With 20 years of experience as a Mental Health Therapist, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of individuals, including adults, families, children, adolescents, and couples. I am acutely aware of the importance of tailoring support to the unique needs of each individual and family, recognizing that no two people are alike. I firmly believe that therapy is not a “one-size-fits-all” approach, and I take pride in cultivating strong, collaborative relationships with my clients. This, in turn, facilitates meaningful change and growth, drawing from both my personal and professional experiences.

    Areas of Expertise:
I am a board-approved supervisor for associate therapists in the process of licensure in Oregon. Currently, I serve as the owner and Clinical Director of Joyful Living Behavioral Health. My expertise spans individual therapy, family therapy, couples counseling, and supervision. I integrate a variety of therapeutic techniques and modalities, customizing my approach to meet the specific needs of each client. Additionally, I bring over 10 years of experience in Human Resources and philanthropic work, which has broadened my knowledge and enriched my therapeutic practice. I work with individuals aged 16 and older.

    My Specialties

    • Couples/Families/Blended Families – including sex therapy (individuals or couples)- I help couples and families with sexual dysfunction, intimacy issues, communication, family patterns/dynamics, problem solving, empathy, boundary awareness, conflict resolution and anger management. I assist families with strengthening their relationships and learning to overcome challenges together.
    • Trauma – Traumatic experiences can leave a deep imprint on the body and mind. The effects of trauma can alter your brain and nervous system, leading to dysregulation which can lead to depression and anxiety and can impact your mood and relationships. I am a trained EMDRIA therapist and I also work with different modalities specific to soothing the nervous system supporting both mind and body healing.
    • Grief & Loss – How individuals experience grief can vary from person to person, coming to terms with feelings of loss and making sense of it can be an emotionally painful process. Grief occurs across all ages but is processed differently. I use the five stages of grief (initially coined by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross) along with CBT techniques to help process grief and bereavement.
